The crocodile bite is his main weapon and it can do massive damage, with it's powerful jaws filled with
teeth (their number can reach up to 80). According to studies by
Gregory Erickson and Kent Vliet of Florida State University, and Dr. Brady
Barr of National Geographic Channel, a bite from one of these animals
can reach the incredible mark of 5000 pounds (2,5 tons).
To get an idea of the crocodile bite force, this would be the same as putting an object of 2,5 tons on your arm with something sharp between your skin and that object, just imagine the result. This remarkable burst of energy can even penetrate the shell of turtles, one of the favorite prey of crocodiles. Despite having many teeth this reptile is incapable of chewing his food. Their teeth are not designed or aligned properly for chewing. So crocodiles rip off chunks of their victims by turning their body (the death roll) and tearing the other animal apart. With the meat in his mouth he just swallows it whole including bones, hair and hooves. However, the jaws are opened by a very weak set of muscles. Crocodiles can therefore be subdued to study or transport by taping their jaws or holding them with strong rubber bands or tape.
